Tis The Season!

I got to see most of my family today for Christmas Eve and I was so grateful for it. I don't have any money this holiday season, but I know how much sentimental things mean to my sister, Shelby, so I looked Tare Panda up and made this for her. It isn't my idea (I took some liberties with it), but I knew she would love it. I used markers and colored pens. She did love it. Don't forget to share and spread the love. Merry Christmas, everybody. Click to enlarge.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

THIS IS IT! LAST DAY OF DRAWLLOWEEN! I get so emotional. It's bittersweet. Obviously, I am burned out and could use the break, but at the same time, I hate to see it go. October is such a magical month and I love seeing what all the artists of the world take the time to create.

I had to go out with a real bang today, guys. In honor of watching Halloween and Hocus Pocus back and forth today, I put all three of the Sanderson Sisters together. I like them together more than I do apart, but that could be because I am biased and feel that this trifecta works wonders together.

ADDITIONALLY, Matt Benyo helped me MAKE A GIF! I think one of the scariest moments in Halloween is when Jamie Lee Curtis is running back to the Doyle residence after discovering everyone at the Wallace residence and Michael Myers is just walking toward her. So, I wanted to recreate that moment. I used construction paper and photoshop to make the images.

I hope everyone has enjoyed keeping up with me this month. I plan to post some more really soon so stay tuned, follow my blog, and remember, I'm an email away! Happy Halloween! Click to enlarge!

Thriller Night!

Today's Drawlloween is Grave and I decided to do Michael Jackson's Thriller because all of those zombies come out of graves. I know it's a bit of a stretch, but it still KIND OF works. I'm making it work. Remember how Thriller is the best music video ever created? Anyway, I had fun with this and wanted to keep it bright. That's my thing right now. Click to enlarge!

The Jackal.

This is the infamous Jackal from the movie Thir13en Ghosts! I actually really enjoy this movie even though it's not that great. The Jackal is the creepiest one. Today's theme for the third Drawlloween list is: Ghosts-A-Go-Go. So, ghost a go go away! I can't take credit for that, Matt Benyo came up with it. I drew this and then added colors and paper textures in Photoshop. No comments about it. I'm trying to do this new thing where I don't say how I feel about it one way or another. Click to enlarge!

Join The Coven.

I'm drained, guys. I don't even have ideas anymore. I'm going off of the third list circulating today which is "World of Witchcraft" and started doodling. I tried to draw like eight different witches from memory; just messing around, but after trying to do all of them, I realized I really liked this girl. So, I took her into Photoshop, used some paper, made some cut outs, and here we are. I CAN'T GIVE UP YET, THOUGH. We're almost at the end of the month. Let's finish strong like Matt Benyo continues to do (I don't know how he's still going. He's clearly a beast robot). Click to enlarge!

"We are the weirdos, mister."

Day 27 for Drawlloween: WITCH. I had to go with the craziest witch of them all: Nancy from The Craft. Fairuza Balk played one of the most insane witches to grace the silver screen. So, I had to draw her. I then redrew her and cleaned the lines up (the hair was an undertaking). After that, I took it into Photoshop and originally had her face a colored and her hair was purple, but it made her more menacing just having her black and white. Truth be told, I don't like this, but you gotta just push through it. Some days are better than others. Click to enlarge!

"You DARED to argue with ME?"

Who remembers The Witches? That glorious movie from 1990 starring Angelica Houston as The Grand High Witch? Well, I remember it. My mom had us watching it from a very young age. I recently made Matt Benyo watch it and it's actually pretty scary for a kid to watch. Here's a fun fact. Did you know that when the witches are having their meeting in the ballroom at the hotel and take off their wigs, a lot of the extras are MEN?! They wear dresses and makeup, but they're definitely guys. I only just noticed this. Anyway, I drew this sucker. This is the completely unedited image of the witch and then the other is the finished product. Lots of time and lots of layers went into this puppy. That seems to be the way I'm doing a lot of things this year. Click to enlarge!

"Go ahead, make my millennium."

I lived through the Black Plague AND I HAD A PRETTY GOOD TIME DURING THAT! It's everyone's favorite rude, crude ghost/demon! It's really not Halloween time without him. I danced with him once and smacked his butt, but that's a different story for a different time. Michael Keaton killed this role and I have Beetlejuice pants because he is the best. I made this guy really colorful. Click to enlarge and enjoy beetlejuice, beetlejuice, BEETLEJUICE!

The Legend of Zelda.

My sister got married earlier this month. She's the first one in my family to do so. It was a big deal. I had the pleasure of being her Maid of Honor. The wedding was small and intimate and we had a great time. I asked her what she wanted for her wedding present and she told me she wanted me to make her something. She loves Link from The Legend of Zelda and wanted something from Wind Waker. She found these mosaics online and wanted me to recreate one for her with some adjustments. This thing took me FOR-EH-VER; I'm talking 10 hours. It measures out to about 3.5 x 9 inches and I bought a nice floating frame to put it in. I used different papers to make it. I also painted paper and would go over that with paint on a dry brush to give it a sort of stained-glass look. I'm happy with how it turned out (considering I haven't done a cut out in some time). I wish I had taken a picture of her face because when I gave it to her, she lit up. Here's a close up of the image and here's a picture of my sister holding the framed piece up. Click to enlarge!

Come Little Children...

The trio would not be complete without Sarah Sanderson to run amuck. I tried drawing her earlier in the month and it was a DISASTER, but this one actually turned out and I was completely shocked. So, here is the final witch from Hocus Pocus! Click to enlarge!

Pure Imagination.

Day 22 for Drawlloween is CANDY. I said, "What do I do for candy, man?" And Matt Benyo exclaimed, "CANDY MAN? Do Willy Wonka!" Let me tell you, this is, by far, the greatest thing I have ever created. I said that a few times last year, but this really takes the cake. I've worked on this for 9 hours at least. There's over 250 photoshop layers in this. I really put my all into it. I drew him first and then figured out which candy I would use. That's an impressive list, actually. I did: Kit Kats, Rolos, Twizzlers, Sno Caps, Airheads Sour Belts, Runts, Fruit by the Foot, and a few others. I had to include the famous everlasting gobstopper right in the middle of his bowtie. If anyone wants to buy a print, let me know. I am so proud of this and would love for everyone to own it. Click to enlarge to really look into this because the details are where it's at.

GREAT SCOTT (again)!

I couldn't NOT do something for Back to the Future today! I tried for the past 2 weeks to draw Marty from the movie, as well as Doc Brown, but it just wasn't happening. Matt Benyo suggested I repost or update the Doc Brown I previously created. I wanted to make sure he looked just like he did in part 2. So, this baby has about 150 photoshop layers in it. Lots of work in the details. It's really hard to believe that after today, that movie will no longer take place in the future. I still can't wrap my head around it. Click to enlarge and remember, when this baby hits 88 MPH, you're going to see some serious stuff!

The Fashion Show.

I had every intention of doing Beetlejuice today, but then I tried to draw Lady Gaga as The Countess and it actually turned out alright so, here we are. I think American Horror Story: Hotel is off to an excellent start. I think Lady Gaga is stealing the show. She is eerie and fits in with this show and its theme. As always though, she has to remain bright and colorful when I make her. Here she is at the Fashion Show that was held in Hotel Cortez last episode. Click to enlarge!

Who You Gonna Call?

I just can't deny my love for Bill Murray, guys! However, I know everyone will kill me for this, but I've never actually seen Ghostbusters! I KNOW, I know. I'll get around to it, but I am familiar with the movie and the concept. Anyway, I drew a little sketch of him and colored him in different pieces of cut paper. Click to enlarge!

Do You Love Me?

Do you know who Old Gregg is? If you don't, you should. Old Gregg is one of the greatest characters ever created. I discovered Old Gregg in college. I remember one night I just played it over and over while painting. I used to know all of the words to the almost 11 minute clip, but over time, the essentials have stayed. Old Gregg is a scaly man-fish. The clip starts with Howard fishing and then we meet Old Gregg and it's the most perfect pairing in the world. Watch it HERE and enjoy this for Drawlloween Day 19: Creature from the Black Lagoon. ALSO, Old Gregg has a sister named BAILEY. Matt Benyo made her and you can see her HERE!

Immortan Joe.

Happy SUNDAY! Today, I did something a little different and put my real skills to the test. When I first saw Mad Max: Fury Road in theaters, I was blown away. The visuals, the cinematography, it was just awesome. Immortan Joe really stuck out in my mind and I wanted to draw him. I used a lot of different media to make him: watercolor, gouache, colored pencils, watercolor pencils, regular pencils, microns, sharpies, and some acrylic too. It was a lot of layering upon layering, but after spending a lot of time on it, I think I'm finished. I wanted to post the black and white version as well as the color. Click to enlarge to enjoy all of the finer details.

Wendy? Darling?

LIGHT OF MY LIFE! I'm not gonna hurt ya. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I said, "I'm not gonna hurt ya." I'M JUST GOING TO BASH YOUR BRAINS IN! Today for Drawlloween, it's demon. I think Jack is a little bit of a demon. Obviously Jack Torrance is a fantastic character and Jack Nicholson plays crazy like a friggin pro. I happen to love The Shining. I decided to actually draw and I still kind of have it. I can still sort of draw. Look, mom and dad. Hang this on the fridge. Click to enlarge!

BILL EFFIN MURRAY!

Today for Drawlloween, it's GRAVE so, I decided to go with Zombie Bill Murray from Zombieland. Now, he's not a REAL zombie in that movie, but if he was, you know. I originally drew this and it was really wonky looking, but I fixed it up as best as I could. I wanted to do funky colors because that's what I've been doing lately. Bill Murray is one of my all time faves. Click to enlarge!

"Satan Has Married Medusa."

I couldn't do Winnie without also including Mary. Mary and her vacuum. Always trying to win Winnie's approval. She's something else. She isn't aware that a Clark bar isn't actually a finger and she has a mouth like a spindle, but man, she makes me laugh. I love that scene where she's watching the baby on the TV and starts wailing. Kills me. Anyway, here's an illustration of Mary for today's Drawlloween: Lotions & Potions (which ties to a witch). Click to enlarge!

The Countess is in.

Who's ready for American Horror Story: Hotel tonight? I think the show is off to a solid start, albeit a graphic one. I'm excited to see where this show goes, but around halfway through it usually goes a way I'm not expecting and it doesn't finish well. Let's see if this is different. So far, Lady Gaga is a solid addition to the cast. She definitely has a creepiness about her. I wanted to take the creep factor away with the bright colors. Click to enlarge!

Sweet Transvestite!

Tim freaking Curry. What a GUY. I'll tell you what, if you don't love Tim Curry, I have to wonder what's wrong with you. He's so great. He was born to play Dr. Frank-N-Furter in Rocky Horror Picture Show. I couldn't even get wild and crazy with this one because I wanted it to be a tribute to him. The confidence, the outfit, the eccentricity: I love him in that role. THIS YEAR IS THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MOVIE. I know, so much Rocky Horror in such a short amount of time, but I also did two Doug Jones characters in a row, so, whatever. Click to enlarge and let's do the time warp again!

Moon Prism Power!

Once, in third grade, I stayed home from school because I was sick and puking purple yogi bear fruit snacks out of my nose. I turned on the TV to discover what would essentially change my young life. I caught my first episode of Sailor Moon. Upon my siblings return home from school, I bombarded them at the door and told them all about this incredible cartoon and how great it was! It wasn't long before I had them all hooked. For the better part of 10 years, Sailor Moon ruled everything around us. We bought trading cards, dolls, candy, characters, we started clubs where we WERE the characters. We bought the soundtracks and would sing them as loud as we could. It was great. For Drawlloween today and MOON, I created Sailor Moon using Adobe Illustrator. For the record, I always identified with Sailor Moon and when it came to picking the characters we were, I chose her. Then again, no one tried to fight me on that because I was the oldest. I had a lot of fun making this and I really love it. Click to enlarge and remember: in the name of the moon, I will punish you!

I Put A Spell On You...

and now you're mine! I wanted to whip up a Sanderson Sister from Hocus Pocus and had to go with the most iconic: Winifred. I wanted to keep it bright. I sketched out a drawing and put that over top of the cut outs. Remember, if you want your own little piece of Hocus Pocus, you can still get one of our Halloween prints for $31! The infamous BOOOOOOK is on it! The hunt for the 13's is still active as well. Read more about that and check out the Halloween print HERE! Click to enlarge!

It's Just A Jump to the Left!

AND THEN A STEP TO THE RI I I I I GHT! Today on the main drawlloween calendar, it's alien. You know who's an alien? Riff Raff from Rocky Horror Picture Show. I drew a sketch of Riff Raff and wanted to take that into Photoshop and do a bright cut out. I think it's alright. It'll do. The amount of times Rocky Horror has been watched in the past few days is kind of alarming. It's awesome. Click to enlarge!

Don't Eat Anything.

Today's Drawlloween theme is eyeball. I had some trouble with this one. After much debate, I decided to do The Pale Man. I struggled a lot. I wanted the hands to pop. I feel like they do. The Pale Man is still one of the scariest characters ever created. Go watch Pan's Labyrinth if you haven't and pray he never meets your child. His hand-eyes are perfect for eyeball. Although this is bright and colorful, his personality definitely is not. Click to enlarge!

"No, He's A GOOD Zombie!"

Both of the calendars list ZOMBIE today! So, I had to conjure up a zombie. This was difficult because I feel like zombies all look pretty similar and I didn't want to do your generic zombie. When Matt Benyo suggested Billy from Hocus Pocus, I was SO excited! Side note: You should go check out his blog. He has been doing American Traditional style girls everyday and it has been a challenge, but kind of the best thing ever. So, I wanted to keep with this weird, bright textured them I have going on and I feel like I did that. Plus, who doesn't love a little Hocus Pocus? Click to enlarge and come little children (and buy a print)!

The Joker!

I wasn't even going to make something today because I'm just feeling super sick. I went into this with a bad attitude and didn't even care, but then things took a turn and I went nuts and channeled the joker and somehow busted this wild piece out. Today's pick on one of the lists circulating is The Joker. Another list is Haunted House, but I didn't want to do that. I was going to do Heath Ledger as the Joker because he's my favorite, but Matt Benyo suggested I try Cesar Romero because his style would better suit this wild color thing I have going on (and he was right). I used photoshop and some scanned paper textures I had to do this. I also used dots to give it that comic book vibe. This doesn't look like anything I'd create, but I'm okay with it and pretty happy with the piece itself. Click to enlarge!

The Wicked Witch.

There's three different Drawlloween lists floating around so I'm picking and choosing. I'm deviating from the one I've been doing to choose another one. Today's on that list is The Wicked Witch. I originally tried drawing her and it wasn't great. Matt said it looked like Gene Wilder as The Wicked Witch. Then I decided to give it a whirl in illustrator and came up with this. After messing with it for a really long time, I like it. It's very graphic and reminds me of a poster. I never draw witches either and what is October without a witch? Click to enlarge!

Bark At The Moon!

Today's theme is werewolf. When I looked at the list, I made a face. Werewolf? I don't care about a werewolf, but then Matt Benyo urged me to do it anyway. "Do it like David Bowie." So, I did. I hated it at first (just like David Bowie), but man... I can't even lie, I am all about this piece now. The colors rule. I made the text. I just really started to feel it after messing with it for seriously 5 hours. I did get frustrated a lot, but PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF. Matt Benyo thinks this is the one. He also thinks I'm onto something. We'll see. There's still 26 days to go. Click to enlarge!

Nosferatu!

One of my favorite vampires of all time is Nosferatu. F. W. Murnau's 1922 version of Nosferatu. Every year when it's "vampire" for Drawlloween/Inktober, I always do a Nosferatu because it's fun to see how he evolves over time. I whipped this up in Adobe Illustrator. He has funky eyebrows. I would've enjoyed spending more time on him, but MY SISTER IS GETTING MARRIED TODAY. So, I was preoccupied. Click to enlarge to check out the details on Nos!

Saturday, October 3, 2015

The Goblin King.

David Bowie is The Goblin King. One of the lists going around for Drawlloween has THE GOBLIN KING ON IT. Another list has "Goblin" SO really I'm tackling two birds, one stone. Here is an extremely 80's looking David Bowie. I drew the facial features and used cut paper to do a bunch of weird stuff. It looks like if David Bowie was in an 80's hair band, but that's okay too. I loved Labyrinth and I'm sure all of you did/do as well! So, in all of his 80's glory and his beautiful colors, enjoy David Bowie as Jareth: The Goblin King. Click to enlarge!

Drawlloween 2015: Day 2!

Today is Devil day or Wednesday Addams day or whatever you want to call it, but I'm posting this beast that I've been working on for the past month. I wanted a sweet looking denim jacket so I gave my old one a make over. Additionally, I painted this entire back panel with acrylic paint of some of my favorite halloween time things. That works for devil day. I bought a slew of studs, spikes, and safety pins and Matt Benyo helped a lot with the sewing of the fabric (and giving me wings). I mean, if this is going to be an over-the-top jacket, let's make it over-the-top, amirightoramiright? Anyway, I love it. I also love that we just did this photoshoot that makes it look like it was made for tumblr. Special thanks to Matt Benyo for taking the photos! Click to enlarge to see the details!

Kickin' Off Drawlloween 2015!

WHY HELLO, BOYS AND GHOULS! My favorite time of the year has arrived: DRAWLLOWEEN! This is a challenge for all artists to draw something Halloween related for everyday in October. There's an official list to follow, but I tend to deviate from it to make other spooky things. To kick it off, Matt Benyo and I are so thrilled to present this SMORGASBOARD we created for all of you that appreciate the scarier things in life. We're doing a very limited edition run of these Halloween-time prints! There are only 30 (and 1 being the original piece; totaling 31). We are selling these for $31 (includes shipping)! If you're interested, shoot me an email (chelseakirchoff@gmail.com). We're also offering a print to a lucky participant! This smorgasboard features 13 hidden 13's. They come in various forms. If you're the first person to successfully locate each of those 13's and tell us the location of them, you win yourself a print (one entry per person). Get them before they're gone and Happy Drawlloween, friends! Click to enlarge the image!

Custom Kid Kicks!

Matt Benyo and I were fortunate enough to be asked by our friend, Elise, to create a pair of custom kicks for her son, Jonah. It was our first pair of Kids shoes and we were excited. We just finished these little suckers up. We went through about 20 sharpies and it was NUTS. We delivered them to Jonah today and he was having a fit over Foxy from Five Nights at Freddy's. Custom Kicks!

It has been some time since I've made any custom shoes, but then these happened! A friend of mine and Matt's asked if we had the time to quickly bust out a pair of shoes for her brother in England. Heck yeah we do! It took us 30+ hours, but we got these suckers done. We used sharpies on gessoed Vans slip on shoes. It has been crazy and we have the posture of a question mark, but hey, it's worth it. Click to enlarge and if you're interested in a pair of your own, leave a comment or send an email! We make them completely customized to be everything you love.
