Day 19: Beetlejuice.
Today starts 3 days of Tim Burton characters! We're kicking it off with the hostest with the mostest: BEETLEJUICE! BEETLEJUICE! BEETLEJUICE! Say his name 3 times and let's raise some hell. Speaking of hell, painting this was like hell, but whatever. It's done.

Day 18: Kane.
The final wrestler: KANE. Kane and Undertaker are brothers (not really), but they, along with Paul Bearer, make one of the spookiest trios in the WWE. It's funny because I planned on doing both of them long before their comeback was made, but this wraps up the wrestlers.
Day 17: Paul Bearer.
Paul Bearer might not be a wrestler, but at one point he was. Here he is in his glory. I can hear him yelling in my mind and he's great. Rest in peace.

Day 16: The Undertaker.
Today kicks off 3 wrestlers that I associate with this spooky time of year and I'm starting with THE UNDERTAKER! He also goes by the dead man and he says REST IN PEACE a lot. He's the spookiest. Also, I really love how I painted this.

Day 15: Captain Spaulding.
One of the main characters from Rob Zombie's House of 1,000 Corpses is Captain Spaulding played by Sid Haig. It's a cool guy; a big weirdo, but great. He's a clown I wouldn't want to mess with. This is the best portrait I've done so far. Let's hope they only get better.

Day 14: The Joker.
Everyone who is anyone knows that I love The Joker, but not just any Joker, Heath Ledger's Joker. Heath... taken from us way too soon. Before I get a little misty eyed, I will leave the Joker here. This was one of the first portraits I did, actually. Still not completely in love, but happy nonetheless!

Day 13: Pennywise.
I had a hard time deciding between doing Tim Curry as Pennywise or Bill Skarsgard. While both are great, I reached out to my friends and old Tim Curry won by an overwhelming amount. You can't mess with the classic! BEEP BEEP, RICHIE! Also, drew up my last Nightmare Before Christmas piece. It has been a lot of work doing two different kinds of art in two different styles, but there ain't no rest for the wicked.
Day 12: Regan.
The Exorcist. This movie scarred a lot of people. My mom was one of those lucky people. I really couldn't imagine being alive when this came out. I don't think there's any movie like it. I had the chance to see it in theaters this year. It was a good time. Hard to believe it's 45 years old. Anyway, here's everyone's favorite possessed child. I did the background to remind you of the pea soup. Also, here is Oogie Boogie because The Nightmare Before Christmas is celebrating its 25th anniversary!

Day 11: DOUBLE POST!
I decided to do two for today: The Babadook AND Charlie from Hereditary. The Babadook has become a gay icon since Netflix mislabeled and he is now dating Pennywise. Charlie from Hereditary is just great. So, today has TWO. We're almost halfway through this month!

Day 10: The Nun.
The Nun is a scary character from the Conjuring universe, but now all I see is Marilyn Manson. This was a hard one to paint, but the eyes are pretty scary, so.

Day 9: Wednesday Addams.
Today, I present Wednesday Addams. Everyone likes Wednesday. She is sadistic and spooky. I think I painted her face pretty well. Also, I drew up Jack Skellington because this year is the 25th anniversary of The Nightmare Before Christmas and I posted that over on the 90's. I've got a lot going on! LOTS OF ART!

Day 8: Lydia Deetz.
Today, I present, Lydia Deetz. I really like the look of this because it's so painterly, but Winona Ryder is pretty hard to paint. That's okay. It's all a learning lesson.

Day 7: Nancy Downs.
Let's kick off the real portraits with one of the best witches to grace the silver screen: NANCY DOWNS! She's played by Fairuza Balk and she is an all star. I was really nervous to post this and transition out of the cartoons because portraits are a challenge, man. You either nail it or you don't. I went back and reworked this portrait. It's so much better than it was. Anyway, hope you enjoy what is the first in a long line of more portraits to come!

Day 6: Maleficent.
The final Disney Villain and cartoon portrait is of Maleficent! She's pretty evil. Did you know her collar was meant to look bat-like? Tomorrow starts real portraits of people and I'm pretty nervous about it because cartoons are one thing, but people are another. Wish me luck!
Day 5: The Old Hag.
I couldn't decide between the Evil Queen and the Old Hag so I did both because they're both great villains. Fun fact: this is the first painting I did for this drawlloween series! Check her out!

Are You Afraid of the Dark?
This is it for the Are You Afraid of the Dark? posts... for now, but I want to know which episodes stuck with you. Is there a particular episode that you think I should illustrate? I'm going to revisit it later on. I had a lot of fun creating some of these characters and hope you had fun remembering them with me! I've got a lot of good stuff coming up in October so STAY TUNED!
Day 4: The Evil Queen.
The next set is THE DISNEY VILLAIN SET! I'm kicking it off with one of the most evil characters of all: THE QUEEN FROM SNOW WHITE! This was a bit of a challenge, but I added some shadows and depth to her face.

Day 3: Booberry.
Last up in the monster cereal series is Booberry, but you know what I say? BEST FOR LAST because Booberry is the best and I don't care what any of you say. I love it. Tomorrow starts the new set and I'm excited! Click to enlarge this lil boo!

Day 2: Count Chocula.
Next up in the mini portrait series is Count Chocula! I love the monster cereals and Count Chocula comes in second place. I guess that doesn't really leave any secrets about who comes in first. Check it out by enlarging it!
The Tale of Laughing in the Dark.
Without a doubt, the creepiest, scariest, and most memorable character of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? franchise is Zeebo the clown. We see Zeebo right away; season 1, episode 2 and he leaves a lasting impression. I remember my little sister, Shelby, was scarred for life by the sight of this guy. Well, the things he does to the main character of this episode made me question how this show was okay for 7 year olds. The old carney that runs the spook house Zeebo is in warns: pick the right door and you'll go free, pick the wrong door, and there he'll be. I wouldn't want to run into him and I definitely wouldn't steal his nose.

Day 1: Frankenberry.
I AM DOING DRAWLLOWEEN WITH A VENGEANCE! For those of you unaware (hi mom! You're the reason I am posting on my blog. Love you), Drawlloween is when you create a piece of art every single day for the month of October and post it on your social media. There's usually a prompt to accompany it, but I'm doing my own thing. I created a bunch of different portraits and painted them. That's the real challenge because I don't usually work in paint so it has been interesting. I'm using gouache and each piece is 2.5 x 3.5 inches! That's the other challenge; they're all small. Every 3 portraits go together with a common theme, but stand alone individually. I'm really excited because I haven't done every single day since 2015! Let's get this party started with FRANKENBERRY!

The Tale of the Ghastly Grinner.
The Ghastly Grinner is a GREAT character from Are You Afraid of the Dark? He's a comic book character come to life and wreaking havoc on the town! I didn't find the Ghastly Grinner to be particularly terrifying, but he was creepy for sure. Fun Fact: When Ethan, the main character of the story, is in the comic book shop, there's a cardboard cut out of the Crimson Clown (another character from the series). Anyone else remember the Grinner and how he would make you laugh blue goo?

The Tale of the Night Shift.
One of the best and scariest characters from Are You Afraid of the Dark? is the vampire from the Tale of the Night Shift. In his non-vampire form, the vampire is portrayed by a sweet girl; the unsuspecting type! It's a great episode and the very final episode in which a reference to Zeebo the clown is made. Here's something funny: 5 years ago, I tried to illustrate the vampire and BOY OH BOY is this thing terrible. Talk about progress! So, click to enlarge to enjoy! Do you remember this episode?!

The Tale of the Midnight Madness.
Next up in the series is one of my favorite episodes ever because it features NOSFERATU! This episode deals with a failing theater called the Rialto, but Dr. Vink shows up (Fink? VINK! With a vuh, vuh, vuh and he is NOT a nut bag!) and he says the solution is in his hands. He gives them a movie of his and says to run it and their problems will be solved, but in doing so, he wants one night a week to show his movies. Well, they put it aside and forget about it, but one day, the film they are showing messes up and they have no choice, but to put Dr. Vink's movie on. Turns out, it's NOSFERATU: THE DEMON VAMPIRE and it is a HUGE hit! Of course, I can't ruin the whole thing, but it gets scary pretty fast and it's awesome.

The Tale of the Thirteenth Floor.
I'm doing a mini series of illustrations based on some of (what I know are) the top Are You Afraid of the Dark? episodes. This is also seen over on my newest project that I've started on Instagram, @theillustrated90s, and I put a lot of work into it. I draw everything out, scan it, and color it digitally in Photoshop. For those of you unfamiliar with this particular episode, it's from Season 2 and it's episode 4. It's about this brother and adopted sister that live on the 12th floor of an apartment complex and they always go up to the 13th floor to play floor hockey. Well, one night, a toy company opens on the 13th floor and a lot of stuff happens, but the ending is a real twist. I'm not going to ruin it for those of you that haven't seen it, but give it a watch. Do we really know people the way we think we do?
